The Jeter Report 2007
Well it’s that time of year. It seems like just yesterday since I chewed my last pair of shoes. Oh, that’s probably because it was just yesterday. Hey, what can I say, I like leather. But I admit I do prefer plastic and wood. But a dogs gotta chew what a dogs gotta to chew, right? So anyhow let’s get on with this letter. I never met Rufus, but at this time of year I sure do miss him. This letter writing thing really hampers my destruction activities.
I guess one of the biggest news items around here this year is that I am no longer “number one”. I was replaced with this little noise box named Hunter in August. Grandma Jana, as she refers to herself these days, has not quit smiling since he arrived. Janae and Craig had a baby boy on August 6th. The new proud parents could not be happier. And to describe Grandma and Grandpa Quigley’s happiness there is just not enough room on this page. “He is soooo cute”, to quote Grandma Jana. Janae continues working a couple days a week at her dental hygienist practice. Her dentists moved into a nice new office this year and she is really happy there. They keep her plenty busy. Craig continues his schooling at SLCC and works full time at Cintas in their document destruction division. This summer he did an amazing job remodeling the spare bedroom into the baby’s nursery. Craig is a very proud poppa. They are enjoying life to the fullest and love being parents.
The other major news item around here was the marriage of Ross to Gina Blake in October. We all just love Gina. She is a very talented young lady and always brightens up our home when she’s around. We miss Ross not living at home anymore, things are a whole lot more quiet around here since he moved out, but we still get to see him and Gina regularly. They come for dinner most Sundays and Ross shows up regularly to watch the Utes play on cable with Don. Ross graduated from SLCC this spring with his associate degree, worked for a little while this summer in Texas selling security alarms and then came home and worked the rest of the time pruning trees. He made a really cool bench out of one tree that he cut down and used it to propose to Gina up at Brighton Ski resort. Gina works for the Utah Jazz and does video editing and media work for the Energy Solutions Center. She and Ross are again both teaching skiing and snowboarding this winter up at Brighton. Gina ran in a Marathon in Logan but I didn’t get to go. Sometimes she takes me running! I haven’t been for awhile because of something to do with obedience? Ross just finished his real estate classes and plans to take the state license exam soon. He is enrolled at the “U” beginning in January. They are very busy people and very much in love. Life is bliss for Ross and Gina.
Clayson completed his first year in the mission field. He will be home before we know it (July 3rd). He loves his mission. He is having many wonderful experiences and getting to teach some great people. He loves the Brazilian people and always has many exciting events to relay in his weekly emails. He must be good at what he’s doing because he spent most of this year training new elders. He recently was transferred to a beach town south of Sao Paulo. He says he has never sweat so much in his entire life. He loves hearing from people so if you get a chance feel free to drop him a line. Just be advised that he’s not too good at writing back. He has very limited time on p-days so he can’t take the time to write everyone as he’d like to. We look forward to talking with him on Christmas day. Clayson loves life and loves serving the Lord full time.
Jana loves being a grandma. She tends baby Hunter one day a week while Janae works. We bought him a little day crib to sleep in when he visits, but Jana has yet to see a need to put him in it. She pretty much just spends the whole day holding him and smiling at him when he is at our house. She also still does her JetBlue thing part time, here at home. I go to work with her in the basement just to keep her company. She calls be JetBlue Jeter. She and Don continue to enjoy the flight benefits and have taken advantage of some of the new JetBlue destinations from Salt Lake. They spent some time back in NYC in the fall and went to another Broadway play, but her favorite thing was whale watching and petting dolphins in San Diego. She still talks to and names every animal she sees. I particularly like my walks with her. We let Don come along once and awhile too. Life is good.
Contrary to some people’s opinion, Don has not retired. Yes, he is no longer doing the 60 + hour work week thing for KeyBank, and the only hotel beds he slept in this year were while he was on a vacation, but he is working hard at getting his new real estate company up and going. Professional Realty Services LLC is officially launched. He helped several people buy and sell houses this year and continues to do property management for clients. He also golfed and fished more this year than he has done in a long time. All and all its been a great year, except for that last week of November of course, when he kept just rambling “How many times is that going to happen” Something about a 4th down on the 12 yard line and 18 yards to go for a first down. Oh well, besides attending all the Ute home games (including UCLA!) he did get to travel to Dallas to watch the TCU game this fall which was a lot of fun. But his biggest thrill was finally getting to go to watch the Yankees play in Yankee Stadium. Did you know they have somebody on their team named Jeter? Cool, huh.
We hope this letter finds you and your family all well. We appreciate your friendship and always look forward to hearing from you or seeing you from time to time. Thanks to all who drop in to visit on occasion. Being empty nesters, we enjoy the company. May this season of celebration be full of joy and peace. We extend to you our warmest greetings and wish you all a very Merry Christmas and happiness throughout the coming New Year.
